How Can I Bid

How can I bid?

Prior to the auction you need to register with us at the auction house to obtain your ‘Buyers Number’. You must provide us with your full name, address, contact telephone number and preferably also your email address. When the auction starts you may raise your number when you wish to bid on an item and wait for the auctioneer to acknowledge your bid. You will then compete with other buyers in the auction room and online all bidding for the same Lot. The auctioneer will continue taking bids until the highest bidder remains. The final bidder is the successful buyer, and the auctioneer indicates that the Lot is sold by knocking down his gavel on the rostrum and declaring the hammer price.

Cost of buying in person

The current buyer’s premium is 22% (26% including VAT). When making your bid you are accepting liability to pay the hammer price, inclusive of the buyer’s premium and VAT.

Absentee or Commision Bids

If you are unable to attend the auction in person, you may leave your bids on a bidding slip, we will then secure the item for you for as low as possible without exceeding your maximum bid. Commission bids can be made in person, by email or by telephone. We do ask that commission bids are submitted by 5.00pm the day before the sale to be certain of inclusion.  To ensure our buyers are completely confident in placing a bid, we can provide you with a Condition Report on any lot.  Condition Reports are written by our Auctioneer and can include further detailed images on request, precise dimensions, any damage and an opinion from our Auctioneer on anything relevant to that lot.  If you are considering placing an Absentee or Commission Bid please do email us at least one day prior to the auction to request a Condition Report and our staff will be very pleased to assist you.

Telephone Bidding

If you are unable to attend the auction and wish to bid live over the telephone you may arrange a telephone bid. One of our members of staff will contact you on the phone number you provide a few Lots ahead of the Lot that you wish to bid on. Telephone bids can be made for Lots in excess of £100. when booking a telephone bid you are comitting to paying at least the lower estimate on the lot. To book your telephone bid please call the office on 01329 836659 to register.  Our staff make every effort to contact you over the telephone as detailed above, but we do not accept any liability for any failure outside our reasonable control.
